While some appreciate the ease of putting earrings on and taking them off, others prioritise comfort and security. So, how do you choose the right pair?
Push Back
The push back is the most common type of earring fastening. It consists of a butterfly clutch that slides onto a smooth post, secured by two small notches that help keep it firmly in place. This fastening is quick and easy to use, making it an excellent choice for those who like to change their earrings regularly or prefer to remove them before going to bed.
Screw Back
The screw back fastening is exceptionally secure and comfortable, making it a popular choice for children's earrings as well. Unlike a push back, which simply slides onto the post, a screw back is twisted onto a threaded post until fully tightened. To ensure the earring remains secure, it is important to fasten it all the way. If you remove your earrings every day, a push back fastening is generally the more practical option.
Lever Back
The lever back fastening is commonly used for drop earrings. It closes securely behind the earlobe, offering both comfort and reliability while remaining easy to use. Its practical design makes it ideal for everyday wear and, in most cases, comfortable enough for sleeping or sports. This fastening is suitable for both adults and older children.
Brisure
The brisure fastening is a traditional design created primarily for children's drop earrings. It is particularly well suited for babies and toddlers up to around three years of age. Although delicate in appearance, it provides a secure and reliable closure. The hook passes through the back of the earlobe and locks into a small loop positioned at the front of the earring, allowing parents to easily check that the earring is safely fastened.
